Course Content

Changing Seasons uses a wide variety of methods to deliver high quality, interactive training via face to face teaching and zoom over four modules. Each module lasts one day. Delegates can then choose how many of the other modules they wish to attend.


  1. An Introduction to Ministry with Older People Module – online
  2. Mission and Discipleship – online
  3. Challenging Loneliness and Isolation – at William Booth College
  4. Transitions in Later Life – at William Booth College

Who should apply

Anyone who is interested in exploring Older People’s Ministry within whatever setting they are working. This would include:

  • Officers
  • Corps Centres Employees
  • Chaplains
  • Volunteers
  • Divisional or Territorial Envoys

Learning Outcomes

By the end of Module 1, delegates should be able to:

  • Have an overview of some of the issues facing older people in the UK and Ireland
  • Understand ways to identify the needs of older people where they live.
  • Explore the theological themes around working with older people.

By the end of Module 2, delegates should be able to:

  • Recognise the value of mission and discipleship with older people.
  • Have an understanding of the different models and resources available to support mission and discipleship with older people, including the ‘Age to Age’ Discipleship material.
  • Identify the challenges of mission amongst older people in different settings and backgrounds.

By the end of Module 3, delegates should be able to:

  • Identify the causes and effects of loneliness and isolation for older people
  • Have an understanding of a theological response to loneliness and isolation
  • Understand good practice around befriending and other projects in a response to loneliness and isolation.

By the end of Module 4, delegates should be able to:

  • Identify different transitional stages in older age
  • Have an understanding of a theological perspective of end of life and eternity
  • Understand good practice, resources and support for end of life issues and conversations around death & dying including the ‘Journeying Home’ resource.
